Meet Sets in Step
Sets in Step has been an active square dance club in the La Crescenta/Montrose area since May of 1958. We are an all-volunteer nonprofit organization. While we are primarily a club for people who know and love square dancing, we also host other social activities for club members and friends such as dining out, day trips to local sites of interest, or visits to local theaters. Highlights of the year are our holiday dinner dance and the annual club anniversary dance which features a live band. Our regular dances are on the first, third and fifth Fridays of every month at the Knights of Columbus Hall located at 2657 Honolulu Avenue in Montrose, CA. The dance level is Mainstream and Plus, with occasional round dancing and line dancing. We have different visiting callers at each dance. Squares begin at 8:00 PM. Refreshments are served at 10:00 PM. On fifth Friday’s round dancing begins at 7:30 PM and the refreshments are served throughout the evening. We are a modern-day club that doesn’t require participants to have a partner or for women to wear skirts. All are welcome.
Our club sponsors a nine-month beginners class starting in September every year to teach new dancers and to help others improve their dancing. It takes this long to learn and become proficient in the 68 Mainstream and 29 Plus calls that are the standard repertoire called at most dances. It sounds like a lot but you are dancing from day one and slowly build your knowledge as you go. It is so much more than just Allemande Left and Do Sa Do.
At Sets in Step, we encourage consideration of others. We recognize that while good dancing ability is nice to have, the greatest contributions each of us can make towards the enjoyment of a dance are friendliness, good humor, tolerance, cooperation and a genuine desire to have fun!
